SLEE- Rear Bumper, Tire Carrier and Ladder – ’98-07 Land Cruiser / LX 470


The Slee rear bumper for the 100 Series Land Cruiser / LX470 has now been updated to reflect our new carrier design with the single latch closing. The bumper and tire carrier is a bolt on installation. No drilling or cutting is required on the frame. The bumper is formed from 3/16″ laser cut steel.

  • All the 3/16 (7GA) material on the bumper is also now manufactured from High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) has nearly twice the strength and  impact resistance of general purpose mild steel (A1011 and A36). 30-36ksi Yield strength vs 50ksi yield strength minimum.

The bumper is finished with final 60% gloss powder coat finish on top of a zinc primer. The pre-treatment includes baking to remove all oil, phosphate washing, sandblasting and then a powder coating is applied. The bumper now features plate style carriers. The tire carrier can be used as an accessory mount if the tire mount is removed. The tire carrier accepts a 4 Gallon Rotopax can (optional hardware required). An optional Maxtrax Mount kit can be purchased if the user would like to store 2 x Maxtrax recovery boards on the carrier.

Slee have designed a new proprietary latch system to close the carriers. A single latch secures both carriers shut. The latch is designed to be easily operated for both opening the closing. The latch is designed to position the opening hand in a natural orientation to make opening and closing easy. The finger tab positions the U-bolt in the latching position to prevent finger pinching risks. The handle on the latch stays in the upright position to make it easier to close. Stainless Steel safety pins keep the carriers closed in the unlikely event that the latch fails, or the user forgets to close the latch.

Each carrier is held open with a gas strut that locks upon opening to ensure that the carriers does not accidently close when vehicle is off-camber. This does require the user to unlock the carrier before closing. If users do not require the locking feature, the locking collar can be removed. The gas struts also aid in closing the carrier and are located such that the carrier does not fly open as soon as the latch is released. Once the latch is released, the safety pin is pulled and the carrier is opened using the T-handle on the safety pin.

Swing-out carriers pivot on large 1.75″ spindles with servicable roller tapered bearings to ensure smooth opening even with heavy loads on the the carriers. A propriety cap seals the hub and allows for easy removal and servicing of the bearings. A grease zerk allows for greasing of the bearings without removing the carriers.

Servicable tapered roller bearings ensure smooth operation.

Bumper is supplied with LED license plate light and mount located on the ladder/accessory carrier. An optional receiver can be purchased to install through the bumper.

The bumper mounts to the frame using integrated and bolt on brackets. The rearmost bracket bolts to the bottom of the frame using existing holes in the frame. The bracket is also bolted through the frame in a horizontal direction.
